I live in Croatia

I'm a British guy that moved to Zagreb, Croatia, in 2016. It's certainly no holiday because, well, we all have to work! That being said, Zagreb is a great city to live in, and the beautiful coast is a relatively short drive away.

For my freelance work, I work from my home office or a coworking space. I started working as an employee for my first Croatian firm in October 2025, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the journey.

I prefer winter

Sometimes, the heat of the summer months in Croatia can hinder what you can get up to. At least for me. I come from a generally colder country, after all. So, if I had to pick either summer or winter, it would have to be the latter. My complexion is more Scandinavian than Mediterranean, but I've learned to acclimatise. Alright, I'm nitpicking. The weather is brilliant!

I use Linux

I've been a user of Arch Linux since 2019. I love the flexibility and control it gives me as a daily driver. It requires a little bit of technical know-how and patience here and there, but it's worth it for me as a developer because it allows me to focus on the job at hand and set up my tooling how I like. The whole experience is nice and simple.

I'm a sci-fi nerd

I did the coolest thing you can do at secondary school and got into Star Trek. It might not have landed me lots of friends, but I still like rewatching some of the series to this day. I'm also a big X-Files fan, although it never has the same romance to it as when I first watched it as a frightened 11-year old boy. Although I'm a bit nerdy, I draw the line at collectible action figures.

I wanted to be a pilot

My eyesight let me down at an early age, so the dream job of being a pilot was nipped in the bud very early on. I'd have to class being a pilot as my dream job as youngster, but I don't regret taking the path of software engineering for a single moment. I still hold a passive interest in aviation and if there was ever a situation where the flight attendant asks if anybody can fly a plane, I might be able to step in.

I support Blackburn Rovers

I've been indoctrinated to support Blackburn Rovers. And rightly so, because they are magnificent! I was 12 years old when Rovers won the Premier League in 1995 - a memory I'll cherish forever. I was a season ticket holder from around the age of 8 until I left for Croatia in 2016, but I still follow them from afar and support the club where I can.
